Restored oak dresser

Restored oak dresser

This picture of the dresser when found makes it look in better shape than she actually was. All drawers had to be glued back together. The handles were double screwed in and it was a big job to get that second tiny screw out. Once I started sanding and seeing the beautiful timber underneath all that old varnish and dust I decided that all timber areas would be restored. Once the top was as smooth as baby skin I stained it in a dark colour. I just loved that stain going on it was looking amazing. I finished all the timber off with a oil based varnish doing 3 coats with light sanding in between.

Now for the colour?

(images above that are numbered were chosen from pinterest)

After doing a facebook poll it seemed number 8 (green) was the most popular.
I must say I just love Annie Sloan Antibes green especially with dark timber.
So that was the colour choice. I painted the front & sides of the drawers in the antibes green and inside with a
lighter colour to freshen the drawers up. I also painted the side panels and top panel that sits on the top. After 3 coats the colour was looking fab.
I was unsure if I wanted to distress as the colour looked so bold and perfect but I felt it needed it and I do love that timber coming through.

I then finished off all the painting surfaces with Annie Sloan clear wax followed by the dark wax. Once the original hardware was back on it looked amazing. I am so happy with the finish. What do you think?
